I went into a casino to find a pay phone (this was BCP; Before Cell Phones). I put my quarter in and found the coin slot jammed. It was my only quarter, so I hit the phone hoping to jar something loose. Not one, but 2 quarters came out AND I had dial tone. I laughed to myself that even the phones had payouts. On my way out, I put the free quarter into a slot machine and won two quarters, so I figured I doubled my money every time I played.

A few months later, friends invited me up for dinner and gaming. I couldn't think of anything more boring, but I wanted to spend time with the people. I had $9 in expendable cash, so I used it to feed the slot machines. It lasted me a couple of hours and I walked away with $18. Spent the rest of the evening sitting and visiting as friends won and lost.

With a solid record of doubling my cash every time, I should go up with several hundred bucks, but I can't think of a more boring way to kill time. Besides, there are other things I'd rather waste money on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4014005277153555622.post-20487792418210306062011-09-25T10:28:20.840-05:002011-09-25T10:28:20.840-05:00The only time I've ever payed the slots (in Ne...The only time I've ever payed the slots (in Nevada, where they have them in the exit/entryways of every grocery store, to grab your spare change as you leave the checkout stands) was with a free roll of ------- wait for it .......... NICKELS -------- that came at the check-in desk of our (cheap) motel. I actually earned breakfast which I considered a big win. I decided to quit while I was ahead and haven't gambled since. Of course, I haven't been to Nevada since, either, but I think, like you, if I do gamble in the future, I'll hang out with the penny and maybe even nickel machines for maximum fun and minimum risk.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15239798951473493987noreply@blogger.com
